  • If you have volunteers, North Greenville Fitness will schedule testing for the late afternoon hours to meet your needs.  We can also plan your testing around your training nights to accommodate your volunteers.  We are designed to be flexible to provide you with the very best service possible.

About Us

North Greenville Fitness actually came into existence because of the Fire Service.  In 1980, O.S.H.A. established that as of September 15, 1980, all fire departments in the United States must have a Health Screening and Fitness Program.  This regulation is 1920.156, subpart L, Appendix A, which states, "employers shall assure that employees who are expected to do interior structural firefighting are physically capable of perfoming those duties which may be assigned to them during emergencies."  The regulation also states, "the employer shall not permit employees with known heart disease, epilepsy, or emphysema to participate in fire brigade emergency activities unless a physician's certificate is provided."  Thus, North Greenville Fitness was established with its related services and has also been proven to work well in markets other than the fire service.

The North Greenville Fitness Difference

  • North Greenville Fitness and Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic provides services within accordance to OSHA regulations and NFPA 1582 recommendations. With respect to NFPA recommendations, our competitors cater to the fitness evaluation section only. If they truly follow every recommendation, then any firefighter or personnel of the department would be disqualified for tobacco use in any form. However, they do not disclose this information when they market their protocols. North Greenville Fitness takes into consideration the feasibility of the NFPA 1582 recommendations, but primarily focuses on the OSHA regulations, seeing as OSHA regulations are required and NFPA 1582 are recommended guidelines, not mandatory.

  • With that said, North Greenville Fitness meets OSHA 1910.156 for Fire Brigade Standard, 1910.134 for Respirator Standard, and 1910.130 for Blood Borne Pathogens regulations.

  • Furthermore, North Greenville Fitness goes above and beyond the minimum requirement for blood work; a full executive blood panel that includes the following chemistries: glucose, kidney enzymes, electrolytes, calcium and phosphorus, proteins, liver enzymes, iron, and LDH; Lipids: total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, VLDL, LDL, estimated Coronary Heart Disease Risk based on cholesterol ratios; Thyroid: TSH, T4, T3, and Free thyroxine index; Complete Blood Count: WBC, RBC, hemoglobin and hematocrit, MCV, MCH, MCHC, platelets, and white blood cell subcomponent analyses; and additional services not limited to PSA (prostatic specific antigen screening), CA-125 (ovarian cancer screening), Hepatitis A,B, and C, as well as a host of other analyses.

  • While other companies boast the superiority of the treadmill to the cycle ergometer, this is beyond the point when screening for heart disease. The mode in which a screening company uses to elevate the heart rate does not matter. The purpose is to stress the heart, for example, elevate to levels close to 80-85% of the heart rate maximum, in order to screen for electrical abnormalities and blockages. There are pros and cons associated with treadmill testing as well as cycle ergometry; however, it is not the purpose to analyze or fixate on aerobic capacity at the performance level for these health screenings. The focus is the electrocardiogram and any abnormalities that occur while the heart is under the stress of exercise or physical work.

  • North Greenville Fitness provides hearing exams at the basic level as well as an in depth audiology hearing booth screening upon request.

  • Every firefighter or individual that tests with North Greenville Fitness has the opportunity to sit down, one-on-one, with a physician and discuss their testing results.

  • Every firefighter or individual that tests with North Greenville Fitness receives an exercise prescription based on their estimated aerobic capacity, type of exercise they are interested in, and their current risk level.

  • North Greenville Fitness has physicians on retainer who are knowledgeable of NFPA 1582 and OSHA regulations, to field any questions from any individual that utilizes our services.

  • North Greenville Fitness offers assessments of muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility at no extra charge, should the consumer request or require these measurements.

  • North Greenville Fitness goes beyond the basic requirement for cardiovascular screening by providing a 12-Lead Electrocardiogram sub-maximal stress test, as well as a total cholesterol and triglyceride analysis. C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is offered as an optional service with the blood work. This exceeds the recommendations by the NFPA as well as OSHA regulations.
